Privacy Policy
Effective date: July 5, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what personal data MapMyRange (“we”, “us”) collects through the MapMyRange mobile app and website, how we use it, who we share it with, and the rights you have over it. We designed the app to collect as little as possible.
1. Who we are
MapMyRange provides a mobile app that helps golfers measure distances on a driving range and track their shots, and provides range operators with a web dashboard. This policy applies to both the app and the website at mapmyrange.com.
For any privacy question or request, contact us at privacy@mapmyrange.com.
2. Personal data we collect
We collect the following categories of personal data:
- Account information (via Clerk). When you create an account we collect your email address, your name, and a unique account identifier (your Clerk user ID). Authentication is handled by our identity provider, Clerk. We do not store your password — Clerk does.
- Golf shot data. Content you create in the app, including your bag and club selections, recorded shot distances, and the timestamps of those shots. This data is stored in your account.
- Precise device location. With your permission, the app uses your device’s precise location only while the app is open in the foreground, and solely to calculate the distance between you and targets on the range. We do not collect background location. We never sell your location and never use it for advertising.
- Diagnostic and crash data (via Sentry). To keep the app stable we use Sentry to collect crash reports, error diagnostics, and performance data. As of the effective date above, Sentry may also record the IP address associated with a diagnostic event. We are removing IP capture in an upcoming release (temporary until app v1.1); it is used only for debugging and never for advertising.
3. What we do NOT do
- We do not use any third-party advertising or tracking SDKs.
- We do not use the Advertising Identifier (IDFA) and we do not show an App Tracking Transparency prompt, because we do not track you across other apps or websites.
- We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
4. How we use your data
- To create and secure your account and sign you in.
- To provide the app’s core features: measuring range distances and saving your shot history.
- To diagnose crashes and improve reliability and performance.
- To respond to your support and privacy requests.
5. Third-party processors
We share personal data only with the service providers that make the app work. Each acts as a data processor on our behalf:
- Clerk — authentication and account management (email, name, account ID).
- Sentry — crash reporting, error diagnostics, and performance monitoring.
We do not sell your data to, or share it with, advertisers or data brokers.
6. Data retention and deletion
We keep your personal data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we permanently delete your personal data — including your profile, golf shots, bag and club data, and session history — within 30 days. You can delete your account in the app (Profile → Delete Account) or by following the steps on our Delete Your Account page.
7. Your rights under the GDPR (EU/UK)
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you have the following rights over your personal data:
- Right to Access — obtain a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Right to Erasure — ask us to delete your personal data.
- Right to Portability — receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
- Right to Object — object to or restrict certain processing of your data.
To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@mapmyrange.com.
8. Your rights under the CCPA (California)
If you are a California resident, you have the following rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA):
- Right to Know — what personal information we collect and how we use it (described in this policy).
- Right to Delete — request deletion of the personal information we hold about you.
- Right to Opt-Out of Sale — we do not sell your personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of; we honor this right by default.
We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights. To make a request, email privacy@mapmyrange.com.
9. Children
MapMyRange is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the effective date at the top of this page. Material changes will be communicated in the app or by email where appropriate.
